ODSS Data Repository for ECOHAB 2013
Introduction
Welcome to the data repository for the ECOHAB 2013 experiment. This is a file storage location where you can share data files and get access to platform data during the experiment.
Organization
In general, the repository is organized by platforms with a couple of special directories thrown in for special reasons:
- Platform Type (Dorado | ESP | etc.)
- applications - This is where applications that are related to the platform can be stored. For example, if
the platform has vendor software for processing data from the platform, you can place it here for others to download.
- instances - This is where information related to specific instance of the platform are stored. For example,
if you have three AUVs of the same platform type, you would create subdirectories for each platform here.
- Instance 1
- data - The directory where both raw and processed data related to this particular instance of the platform is stored
- raw - The raw data from this platform for the experiment
- processed - Any processed data (or products) that was generated from the raw data.
- services - This directory contains a set of links to services that are related to the platform. For example,
you can put HTML files in this folder that redirect the browser to another web page and all the user has to do is
click the link in the ODSS and it will open up the web page in another window.
- dropbox - this is a directory that is synchronized between the shore based ODSS and the ODSS on the Carson. Please note
that this directory is synchronized over a very small satellite link.
Get Data In
In order to get data into the ODSS repository, you can use FTP. You will want to FTP to the server odss.mbari.org (ask the
ODSS team for the username and password) and cd to the 2013_Mar directory. Then follow the above directory organization and
place your files so others can get access to them.
Get Data Out
There are three ways you can get the data out of the ODSS repository
- Via FTP - Just as you did getting the data in via FTP (see above), you can get data out.
- Via the ODSS - You can simply browse the data in the "Data" panel in the lower left hand corner of the ODSS itself. When you find something of interest, you can simply click on it to open it in an HTML or download it.
- Via HTTP - The files are also accessible over HTTP by browsing to http://odss.mbari.org/data/canon/2013_Mar/
